Ed Foran probably has one of the most unique backgrounds of any real estate broker in
Aspen. Born in Chicago as the son of nationally prominent trial lawyer
Thomas Foran (U.S. Attorney during the '68 Democratic National Convention and prosecutor of the
Chicago 7), Ed's family was very active politically. His father campaigned for state governor of Illinois. From an early age Ed has been comfortable with the media and meeting with people of all walks of life.
Ed lived in Alaska for 14 years where he met his wife of 27 years, Barbara. Together they commercial fished for salmon, taught school in remote Indian villages, and Ed worked as a carpenter. He also became involved in racing sled dogs in 1000 mile races, and entered the
Iditarod Sled Dog race twice as well as the
Yukon Quest, finishing in the money every time. He is a 3 time finisher of the
Leadville 100 Mountain Bike Rice and a 2 time finisher of the
24 Hours of Moab.
In 1989 Ed and his family moved to Colorado where he began his career in real estate, specializing in commercial real estate. In 1998, he joined
Mason Morse and won the Rookie of the Year Award. Ed's commercial background in financial analysis and his knowledge of the residential market is a perfect fit for the client seeking a broker that takes a factual and professional approach to real estate sales. In addition, Ed is the founder and President of
Aspen Tax Savings , which assists property owners in challenging their assessed valuation. Given Ed's background, there is no challenge too daunting. As Ed says "having spent the night out lost in a whiteout on the Bering Sea ice, it put things in perspective, therefore, there is no real estate deal too difficult."
Ed continues to challenge himself both physically and mentally with Cycling and Nordic skiing endurance events, as well as being active in Community Theatre. In addition to serving on several non-profit boards, Ed is past President of the
Aspen Board of Realtors and was named Realtor of the Year by the Aspen Board of Realtors in 2006. In addition, Mason Morse has honored Ed with the Integrity award, given to the broker with a selfless drive to do what is right no matter what the cost. His proudest achievement, however, is his family. His three children are all products of the
Aspen Public Schools. Katie graduated
Phi Beta Kappa from
CU Boulder and is currently attending
Columbia Law School. Thanks to the
Aspen Rotary Club, Tommy spent his senior year as an exchange student in southern India and now attends
Naropa University in Boulder. Julia, attends Aspen Middle School. Ed's wife Barbara has a Masters degree from
Harvard Universitys Graduate School of Education and works full time for
Mountain Boces , an organization that provides educational assistance to all of the public schools in the Roaring Fork Valley. For more information, on Ed and to view his listings, you can contact Ed
