snowmass

Before skiers and settlers discovered Snowmass and Brush Creek Valley, the Ute Indians called the area home.  In the 1870's the surrounding peaks were named during the Hayden Survey.  The land proved to be more valuable for ranching than mining and thus you see ranches today in the surrounding valley.  Snowmass has a deep rooted ranching history.  In 1967, Snowmass at Aspen opened with five chairlifts and a $6.50 lift ticket.  Today Snowmass is home to the second largest ski mountain in Colorado with the longest lift served vertical rise in the U.S.

The 25 square mile town is also host to numerous restaurants, boutique shopping and accommodations.  Visitors enjoy these amenities along with the vast number of recreation opportunities.  Come winter skiing and snowboarding predominate, but there is also a free Nordic trail system in Snowmass.  Snowmass isn't a winter only resort as it comes alive each summer with music, biking, hiking and festivals.  Explore surrounding mountain bike and hiking trails with the support of Burlingame lift.  Check out  the Thursday night free summer concerts on the slope of Fanny Hill or attend the Jazz Aspen Snowmass Labor Day Festival to see such greats at The Allman Brothers Band, Michael Franti, and the Black Eyed Peas.
