Aspen Schools

Aspen Schools

The public schools in the Aspen area are excellent, and there are several good alternative/private options as well.

Aspen School District

The Aspen School District runs three schools, the Elementary, Middle and High Schools. The elementary school serves Kindergarten through 4th grade. The Middle School goes from 5th to 8th grades and focuses on developing a strong educational community. The High School aims to promote critical thinking, intellectual curiosity, academic achievement, ethical behavior and meaningful engagement in the community and world.

Aspen Country Day School

Aspen Country Day School is open to all children in the Roaring Fork Valley from pre-kindergarten through middle school. Located at a campus on Castle Creek, it is fully accredited by the National Association of Independent Schools. Country Day is known for its high teacher-student ratio, its strong arts, outdoor education and foreign language programs, and its traditional private-school environment of courtesy and friendship.

Wildwood School (Preschool)

The program pursued here is geared toward helping children develop habits of observation and discovery, questioning, listening and problem solving. Enveloped in an environment of fun where they feel loved and respected they develop an awareness of the uniqueness of who they are and how to express their feelings. They learn that they are free to make choices, and that as long as they stay within the limits of consideration for people and things, they do not always have to conform. This open-ended program prepares children to utilize their intellectual and creative abilities in future learning tasks and in successfully relating to the world and their fellow individuals around them.

Aspen Community School

Founded in 1970, the Aspen Community School (ACS) has a long history of providing quality, progressive K-8 education. Established as a private, alternative school, ACS became a public charter school in 1995. The curriculum at the Aspen Community School consists of core subjects that are taught daily, and integrated cross-age themes that spiral in throughout the year. Core subjects include: Language Arts, Math, Wellness/Social Emotional Development and the Arts. Spiral subjects include: Science, Social Studies, Spanish and Outdoor Education.
