New Castle is a quaint town situated in a narrow valley with views of mountain peaks, and it is the proud home of an award-winning golf course. This town is rich in history and charm. New Castle's prime location on the western edge of the Rocky Mountains, temperate climate, friendly neighborhoods, great schools and easy access to I-70 make New Castle a highly attractive community in which to live, work and play.

The area has 12 municipal parks, several in-town trails and access to both the Colorado River and the Flattops. New Castle's Recreation Department offers an amazing number of sports programs for kids of all ages.

Location

New Castle is nestled in the Colorado River Valley, at the western edge of the Rocky Mountains at an altitude of 5,550 feet above Sea Level.

Climate

Our climate partakes of both the mountains and the high desert to the west. We have at least 260 days of sunlight per year. High temperatures in the summer can reach 90° and January lows can drop to 10°. The average lows in January are in the mid 20′s and the average highs in July are in the mid 70′s.

The population of New Castle was 4,923 citizens in 2020.

Education

New Castle, nestled within the Garfield Re-2 School District alongside Silt and Rifle, prides itself on high educational standards. The town is home to two elementary schools and a middle school, with Coal Ridge High School conveniently located nearby on Route 6. The district is committed to excellence, continually striving for high standards in both staff and student achievements. Adding to the educational richness, Colorado Mountain College, with three campuses in close proximity, now offers select four-year degree programs alongside its two-year courses, enhancing New Castle's educational landscape.

Medical Services

The health needs of New Castle citizens are served by New Castle Family Health and Castle Valley Children’s Clinic, all located in the New Castle Plaza. 24/7 Fitness and Defiance West Strength and Conditioning help maintain wellness through structured exercise programs. Furthermore, the New Castle Recreation Department, Lakota Canyon Ranch & Golf Club, and Recreation Center, Rocky Mountain Martial Arts offer numerous opportunities for outdoor recreation and all provide opportunities for healthy living. New Castle is close to two hospitals Valley View Hospital (10 miles east in Glenwood Springs) and Grand River Hospital (12 miles west in Rifle). At an elevation of 5500 feet and with four distinct seasons, the town offers year-round recreational opportunities, including hiking, biking, four-wheeling, snow shoeing, snowmobiling, skiing, camping and golfing. Living in New Castle, you will find twelve developed parks that provide residents and visitors a wide range of recreational and social activities. Bear Dance Park "Mackonseepi" is New Castle's newest park, complete with pickleball courts, volleyball lawn, playground and walking paths and is located at Clubhouse Drive and Castle Valley Boulevard.
