Pitkin County purchased the scenic ridge separating the Brush Creek and Owl Creek valleys outside of Snowmass Village.
"The conservation purchase of Brush Creek Ranch is the largest investment for one of the most significant purchases in the 20 year history of Pitkin County's Open Space program, said Tim McFlynn, Pitkin County Open Space Board Chairman. The ridge-line parcel offers singular views and critical winter range; links almost 3,000 acres of previously protected open space reaching from Aspen to Snowmass; and will serve as a hub of existing and new hiking, biking and equestrian trails.
Currently, the area is closed for the winter to protect big game. The public is expected to get its first chance to hike, mountain bike and ride horses on the ridge after May 15th, the newly announced official opening date.
