end of summer events in aspen

The Aspen Art Museum

Aspen, Colorado has been described asone of the best places in the world to visit. While theareais known for great skiing and sightseeing, there are alsomany cultural and artistic activities that maybe surprising those non-locals who don't know the area well. While the winter 2016 season isn't quite upon us yet, take advantage of the last few days of summer in Aspen at these events and attractions:

1. The AspenFilm Festival One attraction for people of all ages who lovefilm is the annual Aspen Film Festival. This year's event will mark the 37th annual filmfest, and will take place from September 25-30 in Aspen and Carbondale. One of Aspen's longest-running festivals, the filmfest showcases award-winning films, with opportunities to interact with fillmmakers and directors. For more information, click here.

2. The Aspen SaturdayMarket The end of summer may sometimes mean the end of summer farmer's markets, but not in Aspen. The Aspen Farmer'sMarket will continue to run every Saturday through October 10th. If you haven't visited the market yet this summer, now's your chance! For more information, click here.

3. Exhibits at the Aspen Art Museum The Aspen Art Museum will soon be wrapping up its summer exhibits. One exciting exhibit is The Stories We Tell Ourselves which shows how art and language have been linked through time. This popular exhibit will be on display through the beginning of October.

Another popular exhibit is the Spirit of Photography which will be on display through November 1. This is a great opportunity to see how people from the 1830s through the 1970s used photographic tricks to convince other people that the occult and people from the other side were real. Some of the photos are almost comic by todays digital standards, but at a time when all photos were interesting to behold, the idea that someone could or would fake a photo seem far-fetched at best.

Running through October 18, visitors will have a chance to examine the work of the influential artist, Chris Ofili. The Aspen Art Museum is fortunate to have over 30 of Mr. Ofilis major paintings, a vast number of drawings, and many sculptures representing different phases of his career. Visit the website here.
