aspen filmfest

Wheeler Opera House will be the site of Aspen screenings during the Aspen Filmfest September 21 through 25.

Fall in Aspen means glowing gold aspen leaves in the Roaring Fork Valley. Is it a coincidence that one of the most photographed places in the country is thesite of a film festival thatattracts about 30,000 people each year? With a celebration of the visual now in its 38th year, the Aspen Filmfest takes place September 21 to September 25.

During the festival, film screenings will be held in both Aspen and Carbondale. Aspen's lineup includes a total of 20 films screened at the Wheeler Opera House, while Carbondale's lineup at the Crystal Theatre includes a selection of six films. Each day of the festival, guests in Aspen can also enjoy hors d'oeuvres and wine in the afternoon at Wheeler Opera House. Check out the full festival schedule here.

Guests can attend each of these screenings by purchasing passes or tickets. VIP passes, which include reserved seating at all screenings, are available to Aspen Film Members at the Visionary Level. Aspen Film Members at the Benefactor and Star levels can obtain priority passes, which include the member's pick of the best available seating 30 minutes prior to the beginning of a screening. General passes, which are available to Director Level Aspen Film Members, allow holders to purchase discounted tickets to screenings and choose from the best available seats 15 minutes prior to the beginning of each show. Other Aspen Film Members and the general public can purchase tickets to individual screenings on a first come, first serve basis.

On Thursday and Friday mornings, festival attendees can also participate in panel discussions held at 9:30 AM at the Limelight Hotel. Thursday's discussion is entitled the "Celluloid Self: The Art of Autobiographical Screenplay." Friday's discussion is "Investing in Film for Social Change." Both discussions are open to the public and will include a complimentary continental breakfast.

Last year's film festival introduced attendees to "Room," which won a Best Actress Academy Award for Brie Larson.
