Beginners Tips for Skiing in Aspen Snowmass

beginner tips for aspen snowmass skiers

With a spectacular natural setting thats beautiful every season of the year, Aspen, Snowmass, and the Roaring Fork Valley are high on the list for home buyers looking for second homes. Now that its ski season, our thoughts are turning to the slopesand all the gorgeous properties near them! Aspen Snowmass is ideal for skiers of all ability levels. As you consider which home to keep your ski gear in, here are some tips for beginner skiers.

1. Settle in the day before.

Youll want to get all settled into your Aspen home before you actually start skiing. If you try to ski the same day you arrive, youll get to the slopes later than expected and wont feel like you got in a full day of skiing. So plan on arriving at least a few days in advance and get a full nights rest so you can start out early in the morning.

2. Avail yourself of the Aspen Snowmass ski school.

Take advantage of the awesome Aspen Snowmass ski instructors to help you develop your ski prowess so you feel safe and comfortable on the slopes. Choose from full or half-day classes, and be sure to make a reservation because classes fill up quickly.

3. Try out Assay Hill first.

On your first day up there alone, Assay Hill will be your friend. Its a nice, gentle, relaxed slope located right above Snowmass Base Village. Here, you can easily make mistakes in a learning atmosphere with other beginners. Just get up, dust yourself off and go again. Youll get the hang of it quickly!

4. Dont forget the sunblock.

Aspen sun is deceptivelystrong. Between the altitude and the reflection off the snow when you enjoy Aspen Snowmass skiing, you can get sunburned much easier than youd think. Be sure to apply sunscreen before you go out, and carry a tube of zinc or other sunblock in your parka pocket to reapply as the day goes on.

5. Stop before youre done.

The more you ski, the more youll love it. Its easy to get caught up in the excitement of other skiers and forget that youre still a beginner. Youll be using muscles that you havent before, so stop a little before youre actually done. This will prevent muscle soreness at the end of the day, which might keep you from the slopes tomorrow.

These five tips will help you get over your newbie status fast. Is Aspen Snowmass growing on you? Contact us to check out Aspen homes for sale and Snowmass real estate.
