The World Cup Finals Come to Aspen

Since hosting the first U.S. world skiing competitionin 1950,Aspen has planted its flagon the map of the topski destinations on the face of the earth. In the post-World War II period, Aspen burgeoned from a sleepy silver mining town to a vibrant arts and sports hubfor athletes, artists, and outdoor enthusiasts from every walk of life.

This year, Aspen will host the 2017 Audi FIS Alpine World Cup Finals from March 15 through March18. Featuring the best alpine skiing athletes in the world, the World Cup Finals in Aspen mark the first time in 20 years that the event has been held in the United States.

The races are free to watch, with viewing available in the grandstands, along the course (with purchase of lift ticket), and in designated Audi Fan Zones, as well as on big screens located in Wagner Park downtown. The event will showcase the best skiing on the planet, as the worlds top athletes in mens and womens alpine skiing will compete in a variety of thrilling event categories. Spectators can view competitions in downhill, super-G, giant slalom, slalom, and team events.

Aspecial aspectof this years World Cup Finals is the official homecoming of March World Cup ski racing in Aspen since 1994, as well as commemorating the FIS Ski World Cups 50thanniversary season.

Some of the professional skiers whoare expected to attend and/or compete include Lindsey Vonn, Sophia Goggia, Tamara Tippler, Mario Matt, Fredrick Nyberg, and Mikaela Shiffrin.

The action starts at 8 AMon March 15at the base of Lift 1-A at the hospitality grandstands. The opening race will be the mens downhill on Aspen Mountain at 9:30AM. Head here for a complete schedule of events.

World Cup Village in Downtown Aspen will offer many exciting activities, including three nights of Bud Light Hi-Fi Concert Seriesfree music performances in Wagner Park. A St. Patricks Day party will happen in Wagner Park from 2to7 PM on March 17, which you wont want to miss.
