Unique Areas Around Glenwood Springs
Glenwood Springs has many unique attractions, from relaxing hot springs,
to deep caverns, to the raging Colorado river. Here are some of our
favorite spots.
Hot Springs Pool
The Hot Springs Pool is famous for its mineral rich waters, and their
soothing qualities. There are two pools to choose from, one kept at 90
degrees, and another at a balmier 104. You can alternate between the two
to keep your comfort level right where you want it. In the summer, the
water slide opens and offers hours of fun.
Glenwood Caverns
Renowned for their intricate beauty, these are some of the most impressive
caves you can find anywhere. Tours are available to take you into the
heart of the caves, from which you’ll get an incredible glimpse of this
underground treasure, including thousands of stalactites, stalagmites, and
beautiful flowstone formations. Some of the caverns are so large you
could fit a five story building inside! Touted as the eight wonder of the
world at it’s opening in the late 1800’s, this is one excursion you don’t
want to miss! www.glenwoodcaverns.com
Glenwood Canyon Bike Path
To the east of the town sits the magnificent Glenwood Canyon, where the
Colorado River has carved through thousands of feet of rock to create one
of the most impressive gorges in all of Colorado. A great way to take in
the beauty of this place is via the paved bike path that runs along the
length of the canyon. Starting in town, it’s 16.2 miles to the eastern end
of the canyon. As a reward for the steady climb on the way up, you get to
cruise downhill almost the entire ride back to town. There are four rest
areas along the way, with bathrooms, picnic tables, water and telephones.
Yampah Spa Vapor Caves
These natural underground steam baths are created by hot springs flowing
through the caves, creating a one-of-a-kind relaxing environment. The only
natural vapor caves in North America, three rock chambers are accessed by
descending a stairway from the main building into the caves. There are
several benches you can sit or lay on to relax and breathe in the hot
steamy air. It’s a great recipe for melting away any stress or tension you
might be feeling.
