Sunlight Mountain Ski Resort
This small ski area sits twenty minutes outside Glenwood Springs, and offers both downhill and Nordic skiing. The mountain is popular with
locals who want a more low key experience than offered by the Aspen ski resorts, and those who like skiing but don’t want to break the bank. A season pass
will only run you $350, and day tickets go for $48. Compare that to the $87
you’ll pay in Aspen, and you can see why some folks prefer Sunlight.
The mountain offers fun terrain, from easy cruisers to steep glades. In
fact, one of the steepest runs in Colorado can be found here. The Heathen
clocks in at a burly 52 degrees! In addition, the views across the valley to
Mount Sopris and the rest of the Elk Range are spectacular. The terrain park
features boxes, rails, kickers and more.
In addition to all the downhill fun, the cross country skiing area in
Babbish Gulch offers 29 kilometers of groomed trails in a beautiful high
valley. These trails are free for anyone to use, just bring your cross
country skis or snowshoes and have at it!
Sunlight is also leading the way with environmental initiatives to reduce
their impact on the surrounding area. These programs include employee
transit, guest park and ride, vegetation management and others. For more
